Earlier in history, Qatar was controlled by the Sheikhs Of Bahrain but in 1867 the war broke out between the people and their rulers. Although, For them to keep the peace in the Persian Gulf, the british made Muhammad Ibn Thani Al-Thani the ruler of Qatar. Then, in 1893, the Ottoman Turks made an invasion into Qatar but didn’t succeed because Emir deflected them.Later on, in 1916 the Emir agreed to Qatar becoming a british protectorate.In 1971, Qatar was to join the emirates of the Trucial Coast to be apart of the United Arab Emirates but both Qatar and Bahrain decided to instead form independent nations. Then, in 1991, Qatar allowed the International Forces to use Qatar as a base during the Persian Gulf War. A border dispute later erupted in Saudi Arabia but was settled in December in 1992 while the dispute with Bahrain over the Hawah Islands was unsettled.
In 1940, oil was discovered and in the 1950’s and 1960’s, it was used to gain wealth. It also helped Qatar with their incomes, as 85% of the income was from exports from oil, explains infoplease.com.
